Salkantay (montaña salvaje) es considerado dentro del mundo andino religioso como uno de los glaciares más sagrados desde tiempos remotos hasta la actualidad; es por esta razón que bautizamos este camino inca sagrado como Salkantay. Ubicado en la cordillera de Vilcabamba que es una pequeña cordillera de los Andes en el sur de Perú ubicado a unos 260 km al noroeste de la ciudad de Cusco.
Este majestuoso camino muestra una mescla impresionante de la diversidad de paisaje pintoresco desde los glaciares más altos de nuestra zona como son el Humantay (5,917metros-19,412 pies) y Salkantay (6217etros-20,396 pies) que forman lagunas muy coloridas, y riachuelos que descienden hasta la selva, donde encontramos una vegetación densa con microclimas exuberantes del bosque subtropical con profundos valles y cadenas de montañas, también nos integraremos en sus comunidades a través de su riqueza agrícola y contemplaremos sus centros arqueológicos que le trasportara a tiempos ancestrales; así también dándole el placer inolvidable de su viaje y para finalizar la mágica ciudad de Machupicchu. Por su belleza este camino hacia Machu Picchu es considerado como uno de los caminos más hermosos famoso de la región de Sudamérica.
DESCRIPCION:
Before your trip, the guide will come to your hotel from 1 to 2 days before, to give you the previous information and clarify any doubts or questions you may have before the trip.
We will leave Cusco very early, picking you up from your hotel at 4:30 a.m. We will make the trip in our private transport to the town of Mollepata for 2 hours and 30 minutes, where we will have a local breakfast in one of the houses in the place. You will also have extra time to shop for any last-minute things we are missing.
Then we will resume the trip in the vehicle for 1 hour to Soraypampa (3850 meters – 12631 feet) where we will begin our walk, on the way we will take the detour to go to the Humantay lagoon (4200 meters – 13779 feet) that enchants with its beauty colorful that is under the snow-capped Humantay located 3 km round trip. Continuing our easy walk at 1 hour and 30 minutes we will have lunch, where we will enjoy the culinary art of our chef. Then we will go to our first camp Soyrococha (4,300 masl), located at the foot of the majestic Salkantay snow-capped peak (6,217 meters-20,396 feet).
After having had a dazzling night full of constellations, in the morning we will have a hot breakfast to start our 45-minute walk and reach the highest point of the Salkantay pass (4,650 meters / 15,367 feet), here we will breathe the pure air of the glacier and We will fill with pride for having successfully achieved promotion. While we enjoy the dazzling view. Our guide will explain the customs and traditions of the stacked stones (apachetas) and their connection with the deity Apu Salkantay (6217 meters / 20,396 feet).
We will then descend the steep path, having a delicious restorative lunch in the small community of Rayannioc (3,300 metres/10,826 feet). Then we will continue with the adventure down the valley for 2 hours and 30 minutes to end the hike at the Qollpapamapa camp (2,800 meters / 9,186 feet).
This day we will have a great opportunity to see the humid forest and along the way we will see peasant families that take advantage of the wild territory to grow their food; as well as coffee, avocado, banana, granadilla, etc. Where we will walk for approximately 6 hours through the valley and following the course of the Santa Teresa River to the Lucmabamba camp (2,050 meters / 6,725 feet), after having a delicious lunch we will have the opportunity to explore, learn and taste a bit of the work carried out by local people in the area, especially gourmet coffee from the Andes.
After having a good breakfast, we will continue with the last day of walking in our adventure, ascending the Inca trail, well preserved and protected by the government. We will cross the rain forest formed by its typical forest and its variety of birds. We will finally arrive at the LLactapata pass (2700 meters- 8,858 feet) and after 15 minutes downhill we will visit the magnificent archaeological center of Llactapata, which will leave us stunned with its view of the surroundings of the citadel of Machupicchu, its mountains, glaciers and its interpreted history. by our guide. After enjoying the view, we will continue descending to the Urubamba valley and have the last lunch prepared by our chef and his team at the Hidroeléctrica train station (1850 meters-11,500 feet). In this way, after lunch and before leaving, we will say goodbye to them with gratitude and a see you soon or as they say in our mother tongue, SULLPAYQUI and TUPANANCHIS CAMA!
We will continue our walk following the railway in the opposite direction of the course of the Urubamba River for approximately 3 hours. And finally arriving at the town of Aguas Calientes (2040 meters-6,690 feet) where we will accommodate ourselves in our hotel, and at night we will have dinner in one of the restaurants in this highly recommended town.
Being the last day and eager to reach the destination of our excursion, we will get up very early for breakfast and take one of the first buses that leave at 5:30 am for 25 minutes to the citadel of Machupicchu. We will have the guided tour, where we will learn the history of the wonder under the interpretation of our professional guides for 2 hours, after having free time to explore and take more pictures. And then climb the mountain of Huaynapicchu in the second shift at 10 am (45 minutes approx. to the top) or Machupicchu mountain (1 hour and 30 minutes approx.) depending on space available.
After our visit we will board the bus (it is important to ask the guide for a ticket) back to the town of Aguas Calientes. Before boarding the train we recommend having lunch (not included in the service).
The trains usually leave in the afternoon between 1:30 and 6:22 pm (our service is the EXPEDITION of the Peru Rail company). The reservation will depend on available space; Because it is the only way of return transportation that is made to any of the Ollantaytambo or Poroy train stations, where our transportation will pick you up to drop you off at your hotel in Cusco. The trip lasts approximately 4 hours from the Aguas Calientes train station to the city of Cusco.
NOTE: To climb the HUAYNAPICCHU mountain due to its popularity, request the reservation in advance, spaces are limited and obtain the tickets on the specific date, in the same way for the Machupicchu Mountain.
